Ahead of 'Mersal' release, Vijay meets with TN CM Edappadi Palaniswami

While Mersal is surely confirmed for the Diwali release, which is this week, the lead star Vijay is a anxious man yet.

With barely a couple of days to go for the release, Vijay met Chief Minister K Palaniswami and discussed the issue. However, there is no official confirmation on the same yet. But the entertainment tax has now been lowered to eight per cent from the 10 per cent.

Earlier, the CBFC raised questions over the scenes that involved pigeons in Mersal and made it clear the film has to show an NOC from Animal Welfare Organisation. The good news is tickets rates have also been revised.

The movie just passed a hurdle with the Madras High Court dismissing an appeal filed by a producer against its release. The meeting assumes significance as Mersal has been facing problems in the run-up to its release. The first look posters and even the teaser have already received an fantastic response from the audience. Vijay will be seen in triple roles; a village chief of the '80s, a magician and a doctor. The latest movie, which has Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen in the female leads, will release on 18 October.

The 100th production of Thenandal Studios Limited, Mersal directed by Atlee with a screenplay penned by Baahubali writer Vijayendra Prasad and a musical score by A. R. Rahman, the film was sent to the British Board of Film Certification where it was given a 12A certificate.
