Bulls' Nikola Mirotic out 4-6 weeks, Bobby Portis suspended eight games

Bulls' Nikola Mirotic out 4-6 weeks, Bobby Portis suspended eight games

According to The Vertical's Shams Charania, Mirotic and Portis got into a shoving altercation during practice before Portis threw a punch, connecting with Mirotic's face. The Spain global squared up to Portis, his direct rival for the power forward position but came off worst in the ensuing brawl, Shams Charania reported for The Vertical.

Bobby Portis (suspension) and Nikola Mirotic (face) are both out, so Markannen will step in and likely log heavy minutes for a thin Bulls' roster.

The Chicago Bulls' 2017-18 season took an unexpected turn before it even tipped off, and forward Bobby Portis was suspended Wednesday as a result.

Mirotic was diagnosed with a concussion in addition to a broken jaw and facial fractures from the alleged fight. "He's a good kid, but he made a mistake". Sources told ESPN that strike left Mirotic with a fractured bone, sending him to the hospital.

Mirotic is out indefinitely and his injuries will require surgery after the swelling goes down.

Paxson said that the Bulls got counsel from the league on how to handle the situation.

Portis, 22, averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds last season, and was battling Mirotic for the team's starting power forward spot. Rookie Lauri Markkanen will start in place of Mirotic. His first three seasons in Chicago haven't exactly been sparkling - he has averaged a modest 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds with a discreet 35% success rate in three pointers.
