Federal Bureau of Investigation crackdown on sex trafficking includes IN arrests

In addition to recovering child victims, the agency announced that 120 traffickers were taken into custody as a part of Operation Cross Country XI, a three-day effort that began October 12 and ended October 15, Shelley Lynch, a spokeswoman with the FBI's Charlotte office reported.

In just four days, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement partners in the USA and overseas, recovered 84 sexually exploited minors and arrested 120 traffickers.

This 11th FBI-led Operation Cross Country, which took place this year in 55 Federal Bureau of Investigation field offices and involved 78 state and local task forces, included hundreds of law enforcement partners, along with several global partners, including Canada (Operation Northern Spotlight), the United Kingdom (Aident 8), Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Those operations resulted in at least one minor being recovered in Pecos.

Last year, the same operation led to the recovery of 82 sexually exploited children and the arrests of 239 people.

"We at the FBI have no greater mission than to protect our nation's children from harm", FBI Director Christopher stated in the Wednesday news release. "But our primary goal is really to recover children", said FBI Denver special agent in charge Calvin Shivers.

Operation Cross Country XI is the FBI's annual push to recover underage victims of prostitution.

Authorities staged operations in hotels, casinos, truck stops, and street corners, as well as multiple places online.

Capt. David Knipes with MBPD said the arrests came as part of the FBI's operation on the evening of October 13. Depending on the level of need, victims are offered medical and mental health counseling, as well as a number of other services, the release stated.

The FBI said child sex trafficking is happening in every community across America and agents are working diligently to combat it. The girls had been offered up for sex by a friend staying with the family.

On the same day, a 16-year old female victim was recovered in El Paso, Texas, after an undercover agent called an online advertisement for entertainment.

In Portland, two minor sex trafficking victims were recovered, with nine adult prostitutes arrested and/or cited. Shortly thereafter, the agent met with a 21-year-old woman, who allegedly offered a fee of $200 to engage in sexual intercourse with her and the victim. The subject was placed under arrest.
