Khamenei says Iran will 'shred' nuclear deal if U.S. quits it

"Renegotiation is impossible because ... neither Iran nor Europeans, China and Russian Federation would participate in any renegotiation of JCPOA", he said, naming the powers that helped the previous U.S. administration negotiate the deal with Iran, aimed at curbing its nuclear work in exchange for sanctions relief. Why do you have missiles yourselves?

"The Europeans' following of America's bullying policy is not acceptable for Iran", he said.

Khamenei spoke five days after U.S. President Donald Trump adopted a harsh new approach to Iran by refusing to certify its compliance with the deal, reached under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, and saying he might ultimately terminate it.

He also warned that if the USA tears up the deal, "we will shred it into pieces".

In a call with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron said talks on regional security and Iran's ballistic missile programme were necessary to ensure the survival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Khamenei also said of Trump: "I will not spend time to respond to the nonsensical comments by the foul-mouthed president". "Europe must stand against practical measures (taken) by America", he said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also released several posts in his Twitter account to remind the United States president of Iran's internal unity, saying, "Today, Iranians-boys, girls, men, women-are ALL IRGC; standing firm with those who defend us & the region against aggression & terror".

"They are angry because today the Islamic Republic has managed to foil their plots in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and the like", the Leader added.
