How to Watch Astros vs. Yankees

Game 6 seems like it will have to be a matter of a small edge one way or another for both teams, really.

The stakes: High, to put it simply, for the Astros. They'll face the victor of the Yankees-Astros ALCS. Now the Astros need to win his ninth game to keep their World Series hopes alive. Given how much the bullpen has struggled, the Astros might want to consider suiting up Nolan Ryan for an out or two. "But the one thing that he's missing is a championship". Not only is Verlander coming off a 124-pitch complete-game gem in Game 2 last Saturday in Houston, but he has had plenty of experience with no-tomorrow situations.

The World Series begins on October 24, giving Kershaw four days of rest before the biggest game of his eventual Hall of Fame career.

Verlander's past two win-or-else starts were masterpieces.

Using all his pitches to great effect, particularly his slider and split-fingered fastball, Tanaka powered and spun his way through the Astros' lineup, scattering three hits and striking out eight.

The former National League Cy Young Award victor allowed just three hits and one earned run in his team's pennant-clinching victory over the Cubs in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. When the Astros say there's nobody they would rather have on the mound than Verlander, they mean it.

Amazingly, the Astros have scored just nine runs and are hitting.147 through five games.

But there is evidence to suggest they might finally break out in Game 6. The Yankees counter with hard-throwing Luis Severino.

"That hurt me", Severino said Thursday of his Wild Card Game outing, which lasted just 1/3 of an inning as the Twins touched Severino for four runs on three hits, including home runs by Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario.

Luis Severino will take the mound trying to clinch the series for NY while Houston will ask Justin Verlander to keep its season alive.

The prediction: Chin up, Astros fans. He has allowed seven earned runs in 11 1/1 innings this postseason. This isn't to suggest that the Yankees are going to blow it, only that they will have their hands full. Make Verlander work The Astros righty dominated the Bombers in Game 2.
