With another balanced effort, Auburn stays in range in SEC West race

Both appear as though they're fighting to stay in the league as they begin a second half of a season that feels like it could determine how much longer their coaching tenures last. His 38-yard touchdown in the middle of the third quarter seemingly showed a healthy running back ready to be a major contributor to the Tigers' offense for the second half of the season. Auburn came out of the break and put together a 10-play, 75-yard drive in 2 minutes and 50 seconds to go up 24-6.

Malzahn said afterward that the 28-point quarter was just what the offense needed to get past last week's debacle on the Bayou.

With just less than 10 minutes left in the contest, Auburn's offense, which was almost nonexistent in the second half at LSU last weekend, topped the 600-yard mark.

This Auburn team still controls its destiny for the most part, and Saturday night's game against the Razorbacks proved to be the first step toward achieving everything it had hoped coming into the season.

"Yeah, going back to the last two games from a year ago to where we are today, the second half is a mental barrier", Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema said.

Arkansas is coming off a 41-9 beating from No. 1 Alabama.

"We had probably our best Tuesday practice of the season, one of our best Wednesday practices and they didn't flinch so I am real proud of our team", Malzahn said. One of the two unsuccessful drives was at the end of the half. The Hogs added a late touchdown on a 2-yard run by Devwah Whaley. Daniel Carlson made his lone field goal attempt in the game from 21 yards out with 1:04 left in the first quarter. He also ran for a 15-yard touchdown en route to 49 rushing yards. Ryan Davis completed a 62-yard touchdown pass to Slayton and had a game-high eight receptions for 63 yards. A Hogs fumble set up the other scoring drive. Will the Tigers get to bowl eligibility with a convincing sixth win on the year over Arkansas? Jonathan Nance had an 18-yard catch on a crossing route, then Kelley rolled right and found Jordan Jones for a 17-yard gain into Auburn territory. Connor Limpert's two field goals were the only first half scores for Arkansas, as the Hogs were outgained 288-176 before halftime.

Auburn converted three consecutive third-and-2 plays on its next possession after former Pulaski Academy standout Will Hastings' 22-yard catch, and the Tigers drove to the Arkansas 8. Auburn recorded six sacks, as Holland led a pack of six Auburn players with 1 1/2 sacks. Those fumbles turned to 21 points for the Tigers.

"... We went into halftime (leading 17-6) and our message was to come out strong in the second half and we did that and we had one of our best quarters I think of the year".

The past three games, all blowout losses, Arkansas was outscored 17-0 in the third quarter at SC (48-22 final), was hammered 24-0 by halftime at Alabama (41-9 final) and was whipped 28-7 in the third quarter against Auburn (52-20 final). Auburn is a good, but not great team.

- No. 21 Auburn came into Saturday night's game reeling after of losing a 20-0 lead and the game at LSU the week before.
