Bungie Responds to Reports of Destiny 2 PC User Bans

A few hours ago, in an effort to correct the narrative, Bungie have also released a news article on their site which explains that Destiny 2 can not automatically ban players, and that all players that were banned (only 400 of them) were handled manually, and that they were maliciously attempting to hack the game.

Destiny 2 is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

That still seems to hold true but Bungie has said that players who were using tools "that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game" were banned. The plot thickened once Nvidia GeForce Experience users noted that they were able to use their screen overlays without issue.

Earlier today, Bungie said it doesn't block programs such as overlays or performance tools. Currently, the Destiny 2 Account Restrictions and Banning Policies page notes that "There are NO options to dispute or overturn account restrictions or bans". "[This] includes Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS, etc".

Bungie released a statement about the bans on their official website, addressing these concerns.

Congratulations; you're the most unlucky Destiny 2 PC player of all time. Similarly, many players who have been banned say they haven't used any overlays. Some players have been un-banned after Bungie reviewed their cases, even though all bans were thought to be permanent.

It appears then that so long as players don't break any hard rules set by Bungie they should be fine. The bans were not related to the third-party applications listed above.

Well, as fine as you can be fighting the army of a giant rhino dressed in white armour.
