Corvette ZR1 Unveiled With 755 HP, 210+ MPH Top Speed

The King is returning, stronger than ever.

Chevrolet has unveiled its fastest Corvette ever - at least for the road.

GM's product development vice president Mark Reuss says the ZR1 is unlike any Corvette is on another level to the 'Vettes that have preceded it. "Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back".

As the fourth ZR1 in Corvette history, the 2019 version is equipped with a direct- and port-injected, supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 engine, appropriately named the LT5. All the while the latest Z06 is able to hold its own against the outgoing ZR1.

But the ZR1 isn't just about grunt, the Chevrolet engineers have tuned every element of the auto for maximum performance. The supercharger is 52% larger in terms of displacement than the one used for the Corvette Z06, which itself is no slouch in the performance department. All that is sent to the fat rear tyres via a seven-speed manual transmission, but for the first time on a ZR1 buyers also have the option of an eight-speed automatic. It's the first time an automatic transmission has been offered in a ZR1.

Chevrolet wants the Corvette to become a global flagship for the brand, in the same way the Ford Mustang expanded beyond North America with its most recent model. The model also features a unique carbon-fiber "halo" hood and four new radiators. It enables the ZR1 to generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06's base aero package. With this wing, the vehicle won't be able to attain its estimated top speed of 336 km/h (210 mph), but will allow recording quicker lap times around a track.

In order to hit these impressive speeds, the auto has been equipped with an all-new front fascia and a "downforce-enhancing front underwing".

With the low wing and the V8 working in tandem the ZR1 is capable of reaching a top speed of 338km/h.

The high wing comes with the "ZTK Performance Package", which includes a front splitter, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer-only tires, and re tuned magnetic ride control.

Both of the ZR1's wings are tied into the chassis, like the Corvette Racing C7.R racecar, for strength and stability.

A Sebring Orange Design Package is available, including bright "arrest-me-now" exterior paint combined with matching interior stitching and seat belts, as well as bronze aluminum interior trim.

The new design package complements the Corvette ZR1's tradition of offering maximum performance with refinement and design distinction. Upgrades to the ZR1's standard equipment list include simulated suede seat inserts, premium Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, competition sport seats, a carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel, a Performance Data Recorder, a Bose premium audio system, and more.

The Corvette ZR1 will go on sale next year but Chevrolet isn't revealing the all important number on the price just yet.

It's good to be the King. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature engaging performance, design that makes the heart beat, passive and active safety features and easy-to-use technology, all at a value.
