Defense Ministry investigates staffer who attached wrong photo to Abu Kamal statement

The Russian defence ministry attempted to pass off an image from a video game as "irrefutable evidence" that the U.S. was cooperating with Isil in Syria.

"These facts give indisputable evidence that the US, which (pretends) before the world community an irreconcilable fight against worldwide terrorism, in fact provides cover for combat-capable IS units to restore their forces, regroup and be used for promoting USA interests in the Middle East", the statement said.

From watching the video at the top that shows a clip from AC-130 Gunship Simulator: Special Ops Squadron, a video that was uploaded back in 2015, not anywhere close to November 9, 2017 as the images from the tweet would suggest.

The images were later deleted from the ministry of defence's Twitter and Facebook accounts, and the ministry said several hours later that there had been a "mistake", and publishing a different set of pictures, calling them "irrefutable proof" of USA aid of IS.

The military stood by its allegations saying "the refusal of USA command to inflict strikes on ISIL convoys on November 9 is an established fact recorded in the transcript of conversations".

Russia's Defence Ministry said on Tuesday an employee had attached the wrong photos to a statement accusing the United States of providing de-facto air cover for Islamic State in Syria after the mistake was spotted online.

Russian servicemen salute as air force pilots arrive to board a Russian Sukhoi Su-30SM fighter jet before departure on a mission at the Russian Hmeimin military base in Latakia province, in the northwest of Syria, on December 16, 2015.

"The Russian Defense Ministry is investigating its civil service employee who erroneously attached wrong photo illustrations to its statement on interaction between the US-led global coalition and Islamic State militants near Abu Kamal, Syria", the ministry said.
