IDF deploys Iron Dome for fear of Islamic Jihad retaliation

Israel's army said Monday it had arrested a senior Islamic Jihad member as tensions with the group rose after the army blew up one of its tunnels from Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday threatened to respond harshly if Gaza militants will revenge Israel's deadly bombing of a tunnel that crossed into Israel last month. But Palestinians say tunnels are used to ease the crippling siege on Gaza imposed by Israel and Egypt.

"There are those who are still manipulating the idea of launching new attacks on Israel".

"In any event, we see Hamas responsible to any attack launched or organized from the Gaza Strip against us".

There has not yet been an official statement from the Israeli army on the issue.

"We are aware of the plot that the Islamic Jihad has been planning against Israel", Mordechai declared. They are playing with fire not just against themselves but Hamas as well as on the backs of innocent Gaza residents.

The Israeli army has deployed anti-rocket batteries of its "Iron Dome" air defense system at key points in the country to guard against retaliation by the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, Israeli media reported late Monday.

For his part, Fawzi Barhoum, spokesman for Hamas, said that the recent threats have reflected the Israeli state of panic and confusion towards the reaction of the resistance to the crime of targeting the Palestinians.
