J&K: Army Jawan Martyred, Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Kulgam Encounter

A soldier and a militant were killed and two security personnel injured on Tuesday in a gunfight between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district.

Meanwhile, two militants were killed Monday night in a gunfight with government forces in Kupwara district after they attacked a police party in Rajwar area.

This comes a day after two unidentified militants were gunned down by security forces in Handwara. "He was a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen", a police officer said here.

"The slain militant has been identified as Muzamil Ahmad of Yaripora village of Kulgam district".

The forces cordoned a section of Tral after reports of the presence of militants, following which the encounter ensued.

Following the militant killings, massive protests rocked their hometowns at Palhalan and Sopore.

Officials said the authorities have directed all cellular companies to suspend mobile internet services in entire south Kashmir to prevent spread of any rumour on social media.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989.
