Undertrial shot at, injured at Rohini court

The victim, Vinod, who was being tried in a cheating case, was shot while being escorted into the court premises around 11:20 a.m.

An prisoner was allegedly shot dead by a juvenile in New Delhi's Rohini Court Complex, on Monday, November 13.

"Khan shot Vinod in the back when the latter was being escorted inside the court complex under police security by the Third Battalion, which is in-charge of escorting undertrials to court from prisons and back". Hours after the murder, lawyers sought to blame police, saying that "laxity" in frisking and checking people at entry and exit gates was to blame. The accused, Abdul Khan (24), was arrested from the spot and the weapon of offence seized, he said.

This was the second shootout near the court complex.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 11.40 am.

The incharge responsible for the security of Rohini court i.e. Incharge of Police Post Rohini Court Sub Inspector Narender has been placed under suspension and Station House Officer Prashant Vihar has been sent to district lines pending further inquiry, the DCP added. When Vinod was being taken back an assailant opened fire on him, injuring him critically.

According to the police, the incident was a fallout of a gang rivalry. The court extended his custody for next 14 days. He was rushed to the Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A police source close to the investigation said that Vinod had cheated a businessman to the tune of around '15 lakh by selling him a piece of land on the basis of forged documents. "The incident created chaos in the court and everyone started running here and there". Khan is married and has a kid, said police.
