Azar Nominated For HHS Secretary

President Trump has selected Alex Azar to replace Tom Price as secretary of HHS. He also worked at pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly for almost a decade, according to his LinkedIn profile, and spent about four years on the board of directors of a drug industry lobbying group. "I don't think anybody can question his credentials from an experience perspective".

"At a time when the United States pays, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs, the last thing we need is to put a pharmaceutical executive in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services".

"This is a slap in the face to millions of Americans who are waiting on (the President) to take action to lower drug prices", Cummings wrote on Twitter.

Azar, though a spokesman, declined to comment.

If confirmed, Azar will oversee the National Institute of Health, the CDC, the FDA and other agencies. He will be a star for better healthcare and lower drug prices!

Alex Azar is the latest Hoosier headed to Washington for a post in the federal health sector. He was also HHS general counsel in former President George W. Bush's administration from 2001 to 2005.

Azar has also said he is against expanding Medicaid reimbursements, which provide insurance to almost 130 million Americans under the Affordable Care Act, saying that he would prefer to use government money through "private-sector vehicles" in order to provide health care. "Alex Azar will be able to hit the ground running, following his confirmation, in addressing the challenges facing Medicare and Medicaid and bringing a patient-centered, value-focused approach to healthcare policymaking".

As head of HHS, Azar would have oversight responsibility for the US Food and Drug Administration, which regulates the drug industry including approving new treatments.
