Braxton Beverly cleared to play immediately for NC State

"Braxton is absolutely thrilled with the NCAA's decision to make him immediately eligible to compete for NC State this season", Beverly's lawyer, Scott Tompsett, said in a statement Tuesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina State's Braxton Beverly won't have to sit out this season for attending class after all.

N.C. State announced October 13 that its initial request for Beverly's eligibility was denied, and it appealed that decision 10 days later.

Braxton wants to thank the NCAA for carefully considering NC State's Request for Reconsideration and permitting him to play this season.

The announcement ends a monthslong process of waiver requests and appeals after Beverly, an incoming freshman, made a decision to transfer from Ohio State after Thad Matta's abrupt firing this summer. According to NCAA bylaws, N.C. State had to file new information which wasn't initially available in order for the decision to be reconsidered.

The NCAA said Beverly can "compete immediately", which means he'll suit up against Bryant at PNC Arena. He is very grateful.

Beverly committed to coach Thad Matta and Ohio State past year, and enrolled at the school early.

Beverly was granted a release from the University after then-head coach of the Buckeyes Thad Matta had been relieved of his coaching duties.

The NCAA last month denied Beverly's request to waive the rule.

"Through all of this, I am still happy with the decision to come to NC State".
