Man United boss Mourinho makes signing Arsenal star his top priority

Manchester United fear Marouane Fellaini could leave the club for free next summer with contract talks remaining at an impasse.

Fellaini has a good relationship with Mourinho, having emerged as a pivotal member of his side since the Portuguese took charge as boss in 2016.

There are multiple clubs interested in signing Fellaini, and Besiktas appear to be leading the race.

The 20-year-old is said to have "greatly impressed United staff in the 11 months since making his debut for Valencia in December", per Delaney, who also raises the possibility of a player plus cash deal involving Andreas Pereira, who is now on loan at Valencia.

As a free agent he will undoubtedly be able to demand a big increase on his current salary with another club given there will be no transfer fee involved.

The midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, and according to Calciomercato, Arsenal are the latest club to join the race for Fellaini. The Belgian-born Brazilian is on loan at the Mestalla this season and has made nine appearances thus far. Fellaini signed for Everton in a deal worth £15 million, and he quickly established himself as a first-team regular.

He scored in the Europa League semi-final victory over Celta Vigo and also started in the 2-0 win over Ajax in the final.

Fellaini missed six games through injury until he returned to the squad for the trip to Chelsea before the global break, when he came on as a sub and almost clinched a late equaliser.
