Spice Girls are reuniting, says The Sun newspaper

The Sun reported late Saturday night that "the Spice Girls will reform for a TV special and compilation album next year - with Victoria Beckham".

According to British tabloid The Sun - the outlet simultaneously most and least likely to accurately report on Spice Girls news - a rehired aide to the 90s icons says former Sporty Spice Melanie Chisholm has succeeded in getting the gang together.

Since then getting the five Spices together in the same room has been hard, and it usually only happens for special occasions like the opening night of Viva Forever! the Spice Girls musical, or the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

A rep for Beckham, aka Posh Spice, released a statement about the rumors: "Victoria has said many times, she loved her time in the Spice Girls and continues to be full of affection for the girls and the happy memories they created together, however her future focus is her family and fashion brand".

As well as Mel's split from Stephen Belafonte, Geri Halliwell's newborn son, Monty, has been dubbed a "uniting force", with the source adding: "Things between them were quite icy at the start of the year".

"Plans at the moment are still in the early stages, and everything involving the girls tends to be complicated because they are so busy".

"The fact she is on board now is down to how much closer the five of them have become recently". It got to the point where I just had to let it go. But we're carrying on as a four-piece, and we wish her well. They reunited for a live tour in 2007-08 and last performed together at the London Olympic Games.

The big money in this digital music era of streaming comes from touring, not largely anemic album sales.
