Calling all knitters and crocheters with a big heart.

The organization needs helpers for its "Little Hats, Big Hearts" campaign, which provides homemade red hats to infants born at participating hospitals in February, also known as American Heart Month. For Connecticut, hats may be dropped off of mailed by December 15 to American Heart Association, ATTN: Little Hats, Big Hearts, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

The project, called Little Hats, Big Hearts, has been created to honour and celebrate babies, mothers and living heart-healthily.

If you're good with a needle and yarn, a call has been made for your services to help raise awareness about congenital heart defects. The program is now in more than 40 states.

They're also accepting yarn donation.

Organizers recommend cotton or acrylic yarn that is medium to heavy weight and machine washable / dryable.

"Little Hats, Big Hearts" first began collecting hats for newborns in 2014 in Chicago and warmed 300 little heads that first year.
