Antonio Conte confirms that David Luiz has returned to the squad

Now Luiz faces a battle with Christensen for a spot in tomorrow's league fixture at West Bromwich Albion.

The Brazil worldwide was left out of the 1-0 win over Manchester United prior to the global break amid reports of a breakdown in his relationship with the Blues boss.

Conte said: 'David Luiz is in the squad yes.

Brazilian defender David Luiz has fallen out with Antonio Conte after he dropped him for the Manchester United match two weeks ago.

"It was a technical decision and every single player has to react well and accept my decision. This is the most important thing". Conte praised Christensen for handling the pressure of such a high-profile game and said the Danish global, who spent the last two years on loan at Borussia Moenchengladbach, was proof that Chelsea's policy of loaning out youngsters worked.

Conte would be forced to grudgingly admit that he also made a mistake with authorising Ruben Loftus-Cheek's loan to Crystal Palace, seeing that the England midfielder went on to impress and earn the worldwide call-up thanks to his imperial displays in the first part of the Premier League season.

Champions Chelsea are fourth, a point behind United and Tottenham Hotspur, but trail leaders Manchester City by nine points ahead of the visit to struggling West Brom.

Yet despite a history of bad blood, the Express claims that Mourinho was impressed by Luiz's performances when he rejoined Chelsea from PSG last season.

"I think we are talking about two young players, and two really good players, and for sure Ruben and Tammy will be the future for Chelsea". Mourinho was famously happy to see the back of Luiz at Chelsea when Paris Saint-Germain paid £50m for the player in the summer of 2014, having often only trusted the sometimes kamikaze defender in midfield during the previous campaign.
