Stressing that this has been the recipe for economic transformation across Asia, in China, South Korea, and Japan, Gates said it will also be a key element for recipe for India's economic transformation.

"More than half of India's population works in agriculture".

He called for focusing on increasing productivity of small farmers and connecting them to market so that they can prosper.

He said millions of small holding farmers were malnourished and impoverished and small holding women farmers were often trapped in subsistence farming.

Addressing the AP AgTech Summit-2017, where Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates was present as the chief guest, Naidu, in Visakhapatnam, said, "Andhra Pradesh is topping the list at national level in various parameters".

"The BMGF has partnered with the AP government in the agriculture field and agreed to provide us digital soil mapping technology to have soil profile of every land-holder", Agriculture Minister S. Chandra Mohan Reddy told The Hindu. His admiration at the conference in Visakhapatnam was genuine when he appreciated the steps that have so far been taken to adopt a more modern approach towards agriculture and smart technology and the plans that were being put into place for the future.

Bill Gates had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction over the current system of education in the country in an interview with The Times of India.
