Daniel Hegarty: Tributes and condolences paid for motorcyclist after tragic death

The Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee regrets to announce that, following an incident during the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix - 51 Edition today (November 18 2017) at Fishermen's Bend, the rider of bike number 8, Daniel Hegarty, aged 31, suffered serious injuries. Replayed footage showed Hegarty laying motionless on the track, with debris around him.

"There will never be a podium for this race", said the Carrickfergus rider.

It also added to Irwin's North West 200 Superbike race victory and maiden BSB win this season and was PBM's fourth Macau Grand Prix victory.

Dan Hegarty has sadly been killed following a crash at the Macau Grand Prix.

The Nottingham rider was taking part in his second Macau Grand Prix after finishing 16th past year.

It said Mr Hegarty was the 16th person to die on the Circuito da Gula since the Macau race's debut in 1954. Past year he finished 16th.

The last fatality at the Macau Grand Prix was in 2012 when Portuguese rider Luis Carreira died during qualifying. That was the first fatality since 1994 - although in 2000, a mainland tourist was killed when a vehicle went off the track.

Northern Ireland's Irwin led England's Peter Hickman by 1.3 seconds when the event was stopped after six laps. That's road racing and it's tough.
