Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana were fitness doubts for the Premier League clash, with Dejan Lovren's in contention following an injury to Joel Matip.

Mane featured for Senegal during the global break having previously struggled with a hamstring problem and has been in full training this week, while Lallana is yet to play this season after suffering a thigh injury. However he has since returned to first team training at Melwood and a return to action is close. Adam has trained three days and it is fantastic he is back but there is no rush.

The 29 year old had to miss the first three months of the season after sustaining a knock during the pre-season defeat against Atletico Madrid.

And former Arsenal star Merson is tipping the home side to claim all three points when they host the Saints on Saturday, although he warned that it will not be an easy game.

"There is no rush in it even when everyone who knows Adam can imagine how ready he is to be part of the squad again, so we will see what we do in this case".

He continued: "With Sadio we have to wait, we have to see today [Friday]".

The England global hasn't played a competitive game this campaign after suffering a thigh injury in pre-season against Atletico Madrid. We will use him for sure but bringing him in for 90 minutes?

Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand fill the full-back slots, with Liverpool transfer target Virgil van Dijk partnered by Wesley Hoedt at centre-back. "I have nothing to say about that".
