Suarez Ends Goal Drought As Barcelona Ease Past Leganes

The Catalan club opened a seven-point lead over Valencia and an 11-point advantage over Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, which meet later Saturday at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Barcelona are unbeaten this season, having won all but one of their opening 11 games, while Leganes have enjoyed a solid start to this season's campaign, now sitting in ninth place.

Barcelona will be short of options in defence for next Sunday's top-of-the-table clash with Valencia after Gerard Pique was suspended for the game by picking up a fifth booking of the season against Leganes.

Suarez was refreshed after sitting out worldwide duty with Uruguay over the past fortnight and had the ball in the net after just four minutes, but Jordi Alba had already been flagged for offside as he supplied the cross for the former Liverpool striker.

"Maybe 3-0 is a bit excessive; they have contributed so the distance shouldn't be that wide", he said in his post-match news conference.

Barca took the lead on 28 minutes when Alcacer's cross-shot from the right caught out Ivan Cuellar who could only parry the ball down into the path of Suarez who had the simple task of finishing from close range.

However Gerard Pique will miss next weekend's game against Valencia, as the central defender was given a yellow card for wrapping his arms around Nordin Amrabat, the striker on loan from Watford.

Amrabat was the creator once more for Leganes' best chance before the break when he released Alexander Szymanowski inside the area, but the Argentine's curling effort was turned to safety by the in-form Ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen smothered Amrabat to deny Leganes again soon after and the difference of luck could be summed up when Pique deflected Szymanowski's cross goalwards, but straight into his goalkeeper's hands. Substitute Paulinho poked in the third in stoppage-time for his fourth goal of the season.
