Lucasfilm weighs in on Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot box ordeal

Since many of them are not gamers themselves, EA is motivated by profit first and foremost and is willing to do just about anything to maximize their gains, even if that means chopping up their games and selling them bits at a time or grinding good developers into the dirt.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 hasn't been doing too hot in the United Kingdom and it has now been revealed that EA's latest title had 60 percent fewer physical sales than its predecessor, Battlefront 1.

Despite the unfortunate news, Star Wars Battlefront did manage to secure a spot as the second best-selling game in the United Kingdom this weekend, failing to surpass only the recent Call of Duty. Star Wars: Battlefront II, the game I am entirely sick of talking about is once again the focus of a news subject. The site also notes digital sales of Star Wars: Battlefront II were actually higher than those of Star Wars: Battlefront.

The keyword here is cursory.

Given the considerable lip service EA paid to the campaign ahead of release, that it feels so piecemeal, with only the most basic, objective-based shoot-and-defend gameplay, is shockingly disappointing.

There will certainly be those who don't mind the game's awkward-at-best progression system or the forgettable campaign, and more power to them, but if you were expecting EA and DICE to deliver a sequel that satisfyingly served up everything the original skimped out on, you're in for a crushing disappointment.

That's why the question we posed in this week's Now Loading was "What do you think about EA temporarily removing microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II?". It's possible for Battlefront II to rebound during the holidays, but it's clear gamers' dissatisfaction has cut the legs off what was projected to be one of the year's biggest games.

Gamers do get great value for money on some games, there's no doubt about that.
