50 killed in Nigeria mosque bomb attack

According to eyewitnesses, suspected suicide bomber carried out the attack around 5 a.m., during the Muslim early morning prayers.

The teenage boy was wearing a suicide bomb vest which he triggered during early morning prayers at the Mosque at Kunu Araha area of Mubi town in Adamawa State.

"Several people were injured".

Asked who was responsible, Abubakar said: "We all know the trend".

The security has been stepped-up in Mubi and the Governor of Adamawa State has called for calm among residents. Given the seriousness of the injuries, the death toll was expected to rise, he said.

Another emergency services official described the blast as "devastating".

"I can't tell you the casualty figure for now", Furo said.

The police spokesman said the young man detonated his explosives while mingling among the worshippers.

"This is obviously the work of Boko Haram".

Boko Haram rarely claims attacks but the method is in keeping with tactics seen elsewhere in the long-running conflict.

The explosion bore the hallmarks of a Boko Haram attack.

Most attacks by the group focus on Borno state, the birthplace of the insurgency.

Less than a month later, government forces conquered Boko Haram in the town and recaptured the town from them.
