Jimmy Garoppolo is 'Getting More Comfortable with Each Passing Day'

Jimmy Garoppolo (l to r), 49ers quarterback, and C.J. Beathard, 49ers quarterback practice with teammates at the Levi's Stadium practice field on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in Santa Clara, Calif.

"That's a big ask of a guy", Lynch said during an informal discussion with local reporters. Since Garoppolo's arrival, Shanahan has waited until Friday before announcing Beathard would be his starter.

"I don't think we're going to see Jimmy's best football, to be fair to him, until next year".

"He does some things that are pretty special that it doesn't take a quarterback savant to see", Lynch said.

"We're just preparing for the 49ers". "We feel like we've got a great quarterback room".

Garoppolo has been in the building for almost a month and had a chance to show his work ethic, interact with his teammates and coaches and display his physical ability on the field.

Marsh lined up at defensive end and outside linebacker in his most recent season in Seattle, which plays the same defense as the 49ers. According to Lynch, Garoppolo has checked all of those boxes in a positive way, whether it be how well his teammates have embraced him, his quick release and accuracy throwing the ball or his willingness to stay around the facility and put in extra work. They can't hide him, and they've got to know. "You can see Kyle able to expand and do more stuff. There's a lot that we like".

Garoppolo during the week off spent time working with quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello while also getting some one-on-one time with Shanahan to continue learning the complex offense.

In the short term, questions still abound about when Garoppolo will make his 49ers debut. Shanahan had extra time to evaluate the decision during last week's bye. The days spent going "back to the basics", as John Lynch put it on Tuesday, were crucial for the quarterback. I think he'll get an opportunity to be better each week.

"So, with all our players, we want to set them up for success, probably none more so than a guy we think has the opportunity to be our franchise guy", Lynch said.
