AIG Ashraf Noor among two martyred in Peshawar blast

According to police, a suicide bomber was riding a motorbike rammed into the vehicle of AIGP Mohammad Ashraf Noor near Tatara Park in the city's posh locality of Hayatabad and detonated his explosive.

Noor's vehicle was engulfed in flame, killing him on the spot, Khan said.

The vehicle caught fire after the blast and a thick cloud of smoke could be seen billowing from the area, police said. Initial investigation suggested that the suicide bomber, on a motorcycle, targeted the police convoy on Hayatabad Phase I and II's junction.

The blast left eight others injured.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Salahuddin Mehsud told AFP that three policemen were among the five injured, and were being treated at hospital.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has strongly condemned blast in Hayatabad, Peshawar resulting in the martyrdom of senior police officer and his gun man while injuring several innocent people.

Prior to that on November 9, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Balochistan Police Hamid Shakeel and his driver Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Ramzan were martyred in a suicide blast that went off near Chaman Housing Scheme in Quetta.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Following the blast, security officials cordoned off the area and began a search operation in the surrounding area. Our resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism can not be shaken, Abbasi said.

The early morning blast occurred in Peshawar, capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
