Met Office issue ice warning for North-east tonight

Two yellow warnings have also been issued for the rest of Ireland by Met Ireland, which warned of plummeting temperatures, snow and ice.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice in parts of the United Kingdom over Friday night and Public Health England has told people to take precautions as temperatures look set to drop.

It's mainly falling in the North and North West, but there have been reports of snow in the midlands too.

Tomorrow, Friday, the frost will clear and it will be cold with sunny spells and scattered showers. "Outside that area snow is not going to be an issue, it's more likely to be heavy rain".

Driving conditions are expected to be hard in some areas and drivers have been urged to take care on icy roads. Across Northern Ireland and northern England, snow will be confined to higher routes, but icy patches are likely where showers leave surfaces wet.

It is looking like a cold one tonight.

Snow is expected to fall to lower levels of parts of the country next week, weather experts say.
