More Bulldogs and Rebels on the mic to preview Egg Bowl

Ole Miss' football season hasn't gone as planned and the Rebels will enter Thursday's Egg Bowl as at least two-touchdown underdogs.

From news of a self-imposed postseason ban in February to Hugh Freeze's resignation in July to a 5-6 season that included disappointing finishes against Cal, Arkansas and Texas A&M, it's been a calendar full of adversity.

Early in the first quarter in the Thanksgiving night match-up of intrastate rivals Mississippi State and Ole Miss, Bulldogs' quarterback Nick Fitzgerald went down with a pretty gruesome leg injury.

When the regular season finale rolls around in the state of MS, throw the season records out the window.

The Bulldogs are just one of three SEC teams that have allowed nine or fewer passing TDs this season.

A catch in the first half of the game got Brown the record, that put him at 1,169 yards on the year. "I've said this before, I've been a part of teams that have had a better record, but I am really proud of what this team has been able to accomplish with all they've been through".

Luke, a Gulfport native who played for Ole Miss in the late 1990s, insists his team will be ready. "To the people of the state of MS, this is bragging rights". He has thrown for 1,435 yards and nine touchdowns, and has played well since the season-ending injury to Shea Patterson. It's a huge game, and it is every year, no matter the situation. The 16th-ranked Bulldogs were trailing 7-0 at the time of the injury. He also had 968 rushing yards before the game. "But at the end it's an SEC game that we have to win". The Rebels couldn't hold onto a 24-21 halftime lead against the Aggies and fell 31-24, snapping a two-game win streak. "The ones that are more risky are extending of plays and scrambling". Ole Miss has had some recent success in the Egg Bowl, winning three of the past five games.

"The second you got off the plane, it became Sunday morning, where the game's behind us and we have to get grinding", said MSU coach Dan Mullen. "So I'm super excited to play them this week". "I don't think I have to do that this week".
