SC snubs Sibal's appeal, decides to hear Ayodhya matter in February 2018

The stakeholders in the case had moved the apex court after the Allahabad HC directed the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and the Lord Ram Lalla to settle for a three-way division of the disputed site.

The Supreme Court today made a decision to hear the civil appeals filed by various parties challenging the 2010 Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid title dispute on February 8 next year.

The Supreme Court has taken our middle ground formula on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title heated discussion on record, affirms Syed Wasim Rizvi, chairman of the Shia Central Waqf Board.

"The Sunni Waqf Board wanted to delay the hearing in the case".

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Sunni Waqf Board, reads out the details of exhibits filed by the contesting defendants before the Allahabad High Court.

► Mehta told SC that all the related documents and requisite translation copies are on record. "Rahul Gandhi is visiting temples and Kapil Sibal is fighting against Ram Mandir in the Supreme Court", Giriraj Singh said adding that the Congress is a danger for Sanatan dharma.

Kapil Sibal has raised doubts over assertions of ASG Mehta that how come more than 19,000 pages of documents have been filed in such short time.

The Babri Masjid was built by Mughal emperor Babur in Ayodhya in 1528. Now whether a previous Hindu temple was demolished or modified to create the mosque is a question.

Then in December 1992, hundreds of right wing activists destroyed the 16th-century Barbi mosque. "The Supreme Court should give a judgment and a grand Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya", Shah said.

Earlier, the BJP called Kapil Sibal a "Rome Bhakt", taking a clear dig at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's Italian origin for saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not a "real Hindu" and appearing against Ram Temple in Ayodhya case. "Since the matter is sub judice, the government will not allow starting of any new tradition regarding Ayodhya issue", he had said.

The BJP and the Congress were engaged in a war of words after the Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on Ayodhya dispute to February 8.
