Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor who was 79, passed away after a prolonged illness. While the Indian media covered the news of his demise extensively and how the entire film fraternity offered condolences, global media too aired news of the death of India's first crossover star.

Shashi Kapoor was a brilliant actor. BBC, an global news channel did the biggest blunder as they played a video with clippings of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, instead of Shashi Kapoor.

In a statement, the BBC said: "BBC News at Ten is very sorry the wrong images were used to mark the death of Shashi Kapoor".

Radio 4's Saturday Live presenter Aasmah Mir wrote: "I'm really annoyed about the BBC Shashi Kapoor thing".

However, their mistake got the huge criticism from the social media users uptill then. It's poor when it would have taken them seconds to verify. They too, later apologised. "The piece did not meet its usual standards and the programme has apologized for any upset".

The Kapoor family's ancestral home is located in Kissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar's old city in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and was built by Raj and Shashi Kapoor's grandfather in 1918.
