Whistleblower alleges Flynn texted about Russian Federation nuclear deal during inauguration, congressman says

Cummings also said the whistleblower quoted a business associate of Flynn as saying the economic sanctions against Russian Federation imposed by former President Barack Obama would be "ripped up" as Flynn's first order of business as Trump's national security adviser.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Wednesday that the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the venture to build a Mideast network of nuclear plants with Russian and global partners.

If true, the informant's story adds new evidence that the project's promoters believed that Flynn and Trump backed the plan for a consortium of US, Russian and French firms to build and operate 45 nuclear power plants in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.

Mr. Cummings sent the letter to the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Committee, Trey Gowdy, Republican of SC, and asked him to investigate the whistle-blower's claims.

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his Administration accountable, and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses while at the same time conducting investigations of allegations against Secretary Clinton that were debunked years ago", Cummings wrote. Copson described the nuclear project and told the informant that he had "just got this text message" from Flynn saying that the plan was "good to go" and that Copson should contact his colleagues to "let them know to put things in place", Cummings wrote.

Copson told the whistle-blower that Flynn was making sure the sanctions would be ripped up, which would allow money to start flowing into the project.

In their letter, the Democrats accused Flynn, who was forced to resign in February over his contacts with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, of violating federal law by failing to disclose a trip he took to the Middle East in June 2015 on behalf of the lead company in the nuclear energy project, as well as his contacts with foreign officials.

Copson is the managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners. The letter asks that the committee issue subpoenas for Flynn-related documents the committee requested on a bipartisan basis in March.

Copson allegedly told those around him that "Mike [Flynn] has been putting everything in place for us".

The unnamed whistleblower said that on Inauguration Day he met with Alex Copson, who had worked with Flynn on the plan. The whistleblower alleged Copson showed off the text to those around him, calling it "the best day of my life". Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.

On December 1, U.S. District Court Judge Rudolph Contreras announced that Flynn had reached a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller to cooperate in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
