Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Shkodran Mustafi an injury doubt for Saints clash'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Shkodran Mustafi an injury doubt for Saints clash'

We can not take any of these games lightly after tonight's game against BATE, and I am sure that there will need to be changes by the time we facr Newcastle at home in one of our easier games, but until then I expect Wenger to play with his strongest side available as we fight to get back into the Top Four.

The Gunners are already assured of progressing in top spot and Wenger will continue his policy of mass rotation for the competition with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud expected to come in. "We have just a small problem with Mustafi from Saturday, but everybody else looks alright. If not Southampton it will be West Ham".

The Gunners have already topped Group H and have done so without turning to several of their first-team players.

The latter missed that 1-0 loss in Germany due to illness and has not been involved in a matchday squad since the meeting with Manchester City on 5 November despite being back in full training as transfer speculation continues to circulate ahead of the January window.

When asked his views on Wilshere's family trip to an open air ice-skating rink this week Wenger replied: "It's not ideal".

The only player, apart from long-term absentee Santi Cazorla, who has is struggling with an injury is Shkodran Mustafi.

"I thought he wouldn't play but in the end he could", he said.

On Thursday, however, they play host to a BATE Borisov side who need to pick up three points to keep alive their hopes of reaching the round of 32. Leave him at home? "I think we missed an opportunity on Saturday to take advantage of that, because we were physically quite strong in the game".

"But he tried and he played".
