Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is urging the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Donald TrumpDonald John TrumpDems resurface Flynn's "lock her up" comments after Mueller charges Congress must stop private prisons from receiving tax breaks Evangelicals were with Trump in 2016, and will be in 2020 MORE testify publicly before the panel.

Last July The New York Times revealed Trump Jr. set up the meeting after a wealthy Russian oligarch's publicist, Rob Goldstone, sent him an email offering the Trump campaign "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia", which were "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

The lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, said that she had no such evidence to provide Trump Jr., according to the report, and blamed the Trump-connected music promoter who acted as an intermediary in setting up the meeting for the miscommunication.

A separate 2016 meeting with Alexander Torshin, a senior Russian politician and central banker close to President Vladimir Putin, has added to the scrutiny of President Trump's eldest son.

Blumenthal pointed to the revelation as one of a "number of cascading disclosures that suggest collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials". Previously, she told NBC News she had raised the issue of potential questionable contributions to Clinton's campaign by Americans accused in Russian Federation of tax evasion.

"Donald Trump, Jr. asked if I had any financial documents proving that what may have been illegally obtained funds were also being donated to Mrs. Clinton's foundation". And he asked Veselnitskaya directly whether she had it, according to her written answers.

The interview with President Donald Trump's eldest son comes as both the House and Senate intelligence panels are investigating a meeting that Trump Jr. and other Trump campaign officials held with Russians previous year.

Veselnitskaya insists they will find nothing that isn't already known. The meeting never happened. When Trump Jr. met with Senate investigators earlier this year, he acknowledged that the meeting included discussions of a Russian ban on Americans adopting Russian children.

"Now that I know the kind of apocalyptic Hollywood scenario that a private conversation between a lawyer and a businessman can be turned into, I very much regret that the desire to bring the truth to the [Congress] has thrown the USA president's family, as well as Mrs. Clinton, into the whirlwind of mutual political accusations and fueled the fire of the morbid, completely groundless hatred for Russia", Veselnitskaya wrote.

Veselnitskaya states she was there to talk about America's Magnitsky Act.

But Veselnitskaya says she had no idea about that, confirming testimony Simpson has provided to House and Senate investigators.

Veselnitskaya called those allegations "unsubstantiated and outrageous insinuations".
