Iran leader warns Trump Jerusalem 'violation'

"The Islamic world will undoubtedly stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a big blow from this action and dear Palestine will be liberated", Khamenei said.

The statement by Zarif came immediately after Donald Trump declared that the United States recognizes al-Quds the as capital of Israel and announced plans to relocate the US embassy there.

"And the deprivation of the oppressed Palestinian people from their primary rights in forming an independent Palestinian government with the noble Quds as its capital", it said, using the Arabic name for Jerusalem.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the move by the USA government to transfer its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and proclaim Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying regime, calling it a flagrant violation of worldwide resolutions.

Declaring Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving the United States embassy there will "lead to a substantial change in the American position on the Palestinian issue", Abbas wrote, "and will significantly disrupt the efforts to revive the peace process".

Iran stated that the move threatened a "new intifada", or uprising.

Iran has long supported its Shia Muslim allies in the Palestinian territories.

The move violates worldwide resolutions, the statement said.

While the region requires stability and security, such illegal moves of the U.S. and Israel could push "the Palestinian state and the whole region" toward instability, Rouhani added.

Iran wants "peace and stability" in the region but will not tolerate the violation of Islamic holy sites, Rouhani said.
