Michael Flynn Vowed to End Russia Sanctions, According to Whistleblower

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn told a business associate in January that one of the Trump administration's first priorities would be to "rip up" the sanctions imposed by the Obama administration in December, according to a whistleblower who described the incident to a Democratic congressman.

Trey GowdyHarold (Trey) Watson GowdyGowdy: FBI has had a "really bad last 18 months' Benghazi panel used 0K in taxpayer money to settle wrongful termination lawsuit Congressional investigators make first evidence requests in Russian Federation nuclear bribery case MORE (R-S.C.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee".

Flynn, who pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, did consulting work with the form as part of a deal to build nuclear reactors across the middle east.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Wednesday the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top national-security officials.

"Our Committee has credible allegations that President Trump's National Security Advisor sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", Cummings wrote.

The whistle-blower told Mr Cummings that he saw a text from Flynn that was sent on Jan 20 "approximately ten minutes" into Mr Trump's speech when Flynn was sitting in the audience.

Cummings told Gowdy in his letter that he found the witness "authentic, credible and reliable". He said Flynn did not cash the check, however. He added, "This is going to make a lot of people very wealthy".

Neither Gowdy nor Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, responded immediately to a request for comment.

This whistleblower has reportedly claimed that during an inauguration day conversation with Alex Copson (the aforementioned associate), Copson said this was "the start of something I've been working on for years, and we are good to go".

It gave Flynn a potential monetary incentive to get sanctions imposed on Russian Federation during the Obama administration lifted immediately.

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Mr. Cummings said.

Cummings said he was first contacted by the whistleblower last June, but suggested that his account had remained under wraps while Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian meddling, was investigating Flynn.

Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Cummings have a long history of clashing publicly over politically charged investigations.

Flynn had worked as a consultant for ACU Strategic Partners, the group pushing the proposed nuclear deal, in 2015 and 2016. The whistleblower also said that Copson intimated that USA financial sanctions hobbling the nuclear project were going to be "ripped up". But it's not. Cummings provided hard evidence that he wants to form the basis of a subpoena created to uproot what really happened.

The letter from Cummings concluded with a request to issue subpoenas for "all documents and communications referring or relating" to Flynn's foreign contacts during the Trump campaign, the transition period and his brief time as national security adviser.
