Oosthuizen's freak injury opens Major door for Frittelli

Six golfers lie second on 64 - South Africans Jared Harvey, Erik van Rooyen and Ockie Strydom, English pair Matthew Baldwin and James Morrison and German Sebastian Heisele.

"I'm probably going to go do an X-ray today", Oosthuizen said.

Oosthuizen's freakish injury, however, opens up the door for red-hot compatriot Dylan Frittelli, who won in Mauritius last week, to try and secure his place at the 2018 Masters at Augusta National. Then my wife had flu and then I got flu and lost a lot of weight. I couldn't deal with that and then the heat in Mauritius got to me so I checked into hospital for a few days. "I just wanted to have fun, so I am very blessed to be playing well".

Davidse mocked his world ranking of 680 with nine birdies and a lone bogey in halves of 32 and 31 over the Bushwillow track, the easier of two courses being used for the first two rounds. "I needed to play well today - it's a good feeling".

"I'll have someone check it out back home and hopefully it's nothing much". In a bogey-free round he shot a scintillating 66. "The course was unbelievable (after all the rain that's fallen) and I think everyone will agree with me it's in flawless condition", he said after a day when the afternoon field were only briefly disrupted by a rain shower.

Nathan Kimsey, last season's champion at the Qualifying School Final stage, is also tied for eighth after he birdied four of the last seven holes on the Bushwillows layout to post a 65, but Mauritius Open champion Dylan Frittelli has ground to make up after a disappointing one-under 71.

Davidse excelled at the par fives, claiming birdies at all three, Another five birdies came at par fours with one at a par three.
