Paul Scholes tells Mourinho: This is your best left back

He earned a reputation as one of England's most exciting players after Shaw impressed during his latter teenage years at Southampton before a £27m move to Manchester United in 2015.

It was 219 days since the England worldwide had started a match for United and it's rumoured that Mourinho has doubted his attitude and appetite to make it at the top.

Shaw has endured a hard 18 months under Jose Mourinho and has been criticized for his below par performances.

All in all, it's fair to say he has it all to do to become first-choice again, with United having experimented with Ashley Young in his position so far in the campaign.

The Argentina defender has recently returned from a long-term injury and has played in United's last three games.

Reports last week claimed Mourinho has prioritised signing a new left-back in the winter transfer window and that the unsettled Rose was his primary target.

The positives for Mourinho kept flowing as several other of his players who have been found short in recent weeks turned in some eye-catching displays.

"If he can score his goal and then feel that happiness that the strikers only feel when they score goals, then great - but his contribution for the team is unbelievable".

Although Lukaku's tally now stands at an impressive 12 goals across all competitions since joining the club, Mourinho believes the striker's importance can be felt well beyond the scoresheet.

Using his pace and direct running to open up the pitch, his composure was neatly defined when he flicked the ball over his head in the centre of the pitch to work an opening from his marker during the first half. They have a big issue but, in the end, everybody is ready to play.

As is evident by Jose Mourinho's line-up decision today however, Shaw will get his chance to fight for a keep his place in the team.

He said: "He is the best left back at the club, he won't play on Sunday but he showed what he can do".

What do you think Luke Shaw's future will look like?
