Rian Johnson's New 'Star Wars' Trilogy Won't Be Connected with Current Trilogy

When news broke that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director was set to map out a whole new trilogy of films away from the Skywalker saga, it didn't take long for a videogame classic to be cited. Although it is not yet revealed what the new story canon will be all about, in a new interview, the 43-year-old director talked about his plans for the movie series. "Yet we can't just revel in that; we have to go elsewhere". Although the new trilogy continues the Skywalker saga, some fans are interested in the idea of exploring more stories with young Luke Skywalker with Sebastian Stan playing the iconic Jedi. Solomon's story about Hamill really reminds us that there's a lot of good in the Star Wars franchise. "Let's start fresh", he said.

Creating a new "Star Wars" canon is, probably, the biggest decision Disney and Lucasfilm have ever made after the announcement of the current sequel trilogy.

Speaking to Uproxx, Johnson said: "I played that game when it first came out and it was like, 'God, I loved it'".

"There's some cool stuff in the "Star Wars" universe they can use, there's cool fan theories they can use that could be part of the movies too, I mean, why not?" As Johnson was asked about this, he reportedly just answered with a "smirk". Of course, 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story gave us the explanation of how this was possible, but we saw the same thing happen in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens when Finn, Rey, Han, and Chewbacca worked together to shut down the Starkiller Base with a few well-placed bombs. As a result, we see a amusing little video of Stan reading some of Luke's classic lines.

Mark Hamill might be a hermit of a Jedi in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but in real life, the Star Wars legend seems to be a pretty great guy.
