Shooting reported at high school in New Mexico

Officers in Aztec, New Mexico, have responded to a shooting at Aztec High School.

KRQE reported the suspect was in custody.

The Bloomfield Police Department is asking parents to stay away from the school until further notice. Both Bloomfield and Farmington High Schools are on lockdown.

The sheriff's office urged people to avoid the area and confirmed the school was evacauted.

Schools in the area are taking the proper precautions to ensure the safety of their students and faculty.

Numerous people have posted to Facebook Thursday morning about the shooting.

Aztec is a community of 6,700 residents, located in rural northwestern New Mexico, about 180 miles from Albuquerque.

A spokesman for Aztec Police Department informed parents of initial information, and a video of it was shared on Facebook by a reporter for TV station KOB.
