Square Enix Officially Announces Third Tomb Raider Game

As such, don't expect any Tomb Raider announcements today or during the Playstation Experience 2017 event.

Square Enix is very excited to share some happy news with its fans: A new Tomb Raider game will launch in 2018. Check out the first letters of each sentence in the Tweet below - they spell out Shadow.

Tomb Raider has seen a considerable resurgence in the last couple of years, featuring two successful games and an upcoming movie remake (Sorry Angelina Jolie). The rest sounds like Square Enix embarking on a different approach to release schedules, or something. They say they are "Putting their fans first" and there won't be a big gap between the game being announced and everyone being able to play it. This announcement was made on the official Tomb Raider Twitter account with a statement that might also potentially hint at the subtitle for the game. The bad news is that it did not go deeper, so for now, all we have left is to wait. Honestly, we wish we could share it with you right now, but we're taking a new approach this time around.

A feature film adaptation of the first game will be released next year, simply titled Tomb Raider, featuring Academy Award victor Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role. They actually announced that they will announce the next Lara Croft adventure at a "major event" in 2018.
