Stipe Miocic Vs Francis Ngannou Set For UFC 220 In January

UFC 220 is on the verge of getting even bigger - literally.

In one of the most highly anticipated heavyweight title fight in years, champion Stipe Miocic will put his title on the line against Francis Ngannou in the main event for UFC 220 in Boston on January 20. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the UFC had yet to make its plans public.

In the co-main event of UFC 218 at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit on Saturday, December 2, Ngannou earned a vicious first-round knockout of former top contender Alistair Overeem with a left hook that landed flush on the jaw. The event will take place inside TD Garden. Contractual issues, however, have kept Miocic out of the octagon since the Dos Santos fight. He tied the record with a first-round knockout of Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 in Dallas on May 13.

Then, in the post-fight interview, Ngannou said he is the real world champion and that Miocic was simply holding the belt for him in the interim.

MMA Junkie first reported the potential title bout.

If the hulking Ngannou, who only made his UFC debut in December of 2015, hadn't already captured the imagination with five straight finishes, he certainly did so with his sixth - an otherworldly knockout of the aforementioned Overeem on Saturday night.

This would mark just the fourth time in UFC history that the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles would be at stake on the same card.

UFC star Francis Ngannou could well be set for a fight against Britain's Anthony Joshua in 2018, according to the Cameroonian's manager Dewey Cooper.
