Why Hugh Jackman Turned Down The Chance To Be James Bond

The Logan star revealed in a recent interview with Variety that producers looked to him when Pierce Brosnan stepped down from the role, but he decided not to take the job because he thought the scripts were too "unbelievable".

Explaining his reason for turning down the life changing opportunity to play James Bond, Jackman said: "The scripts had become so unbelievable and insane". "I just felt at the time that the scripts had become so unbelievable and insane, and I felt like they needed to become grittier and real", he said.

Jackman recalled his agent telling him he doesn't "get a say" in the scripts and "just have to sign on".

"He said", I was anxious that between "Bond" and "X-Men", I'd never have time to do different things". As it turns out, the reason why the Australian actor had rejected the role was later seen coming to fruition in the future Bond movies starring Craig.

Jackman doesn't seem to have any regrets about turning down the Bond role, and he is not the first actor to do so.

Hugh Jackman has revealed he could have been James Bond. The film was a tremendous departure from the rest of the X-Men movie universe (Deadpool is also R-rated, but it's a comedy), rendering a wounded, soulful Wolverine on a quest for a little redemption in a ruined world.

"I also genuinely love the family aspect of what we do, and I feel more comfortable being relaxed and myself with everybody, rather than a feeling of 'Oh, I'm a big actor; you can't talk to me.' My way of connecting - maybe people attribute it as being nice, but it's just being a normal person".

Jackman, whose new film, "The Greatest Showman", is due in theaters December 20, said he tries to mix it up when it comes to his roles.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Daniel Craig will return for the next Bond instalment in 2019. "And I was calm and at peace, but I'm going to miss that guy".
