'X-Men: Dark Phoenix': Images Reveal First Look At New Film

It was something of a surprise that Lawrence, McAvoy, Fassbender, and Hoult all returned for Dark Phoenix, since their contracts expired after Apocalypse.

"I would call Dark Phoenix a drama", Lawrence continues.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is now slated for a November 2, 2018, release.

Entertainment Weekly released the cover of its December 15/22 "First Look Issue" Thursday, giving fans their first look at Turner in 20th Century Fox's upcoming mutant epic X-Men: Dark Phoenix. At this point, we have no idea if we'll be seeing things as insane as the fight on the Blue Area of the moon, but Kinberg did say he's been wanting to tell his version of this story ever since his plans to go further with Dark Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand were scrapped by the studio.

The Entertainment Weekly issue with the X-Men: Dark Phoenix cover seen here is out on shelves December 8. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.

Pride is starting to get the better of him [Charle Xavier], and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions.

Sophie made her debut as the young Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, but she's getting the standalone movie she deserves.

But perhaps the most interesting photo is the one that depicts Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and several of his X-Men at a rainy funeral.

The story draws heavily from the "Phoenix Saga" arc in Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and John Byrne, which introduced the Dark Phoenix persona through Jean Grey's outer-space encounter with a deadly solar flare.

Though, be prepared: "There's a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering".

"It's about the butterfly effect of this thing happening", says Turner, who studied schizophrenia and multiple personality disorders to prepare.

When it was announced that Oscar-nominated actress would play a villain in the flick, many assumed it would be Shi'ar Empress Lilandra Neramani because that character factors heavily into the Dark Phoenix comic storyline. "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" arrives in theaters November 2, 2018.
