$10K dropped into Salvation Army collection kettle

The Detroit Red Wings organization has raised almost $135,000 for The Salvation Army through “Red Wings for Red Kettles” since 2005.

Some Secret Santa just dropped $10,000 in cash into a Salvation Army Red Kettle outside a Hollywood neighborhood grocery store.

The Angel Tree program has a goal of providing gifts for 850 children this year, and the deadline to contribute is December 17, DeGregorio said.

"We'll be using all of these funds to support our programs that are with emergency assistance programs", says Salvation Army Captain Karl Dahlin.

Major Abe Tamayo said there could be some significant consequences if the organization doesn't meet its goal. Captain Charles Adams gives us the background of the Salvation Army in New Haven and the campaign.

One important campaign happening now is the Red Kettle Campaign.

"We get people right off the streets, not typical homeless, we get whole families, people who suddenly find themselves homeless", Tamayo said.

"From the day I actually started, my buckets have been so full that they have to shove money in there", she said.

People also can donate online at or text ST JOE 41444. Having donated last year, Ms Stammers, one of the teachers from St. Andrew's, was keen to see if the school could donate at least the same amount this year and has been delighted with the response with donations including boxes of lego, jewellery kits, art sets and a range of other toys and useful gifts.
