Gujarat Polls: PM Modi addresses rally in Dhandhuka

"For years, efforts were made to suppress the ideas of Baba Saheb (BR Ambedkar) and erase his contributions in nation-building".

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at the ceremony to dedicate Dr. Ambedkar International Centre to the Nation, at 15 Janpath, in New Delhi on December 07, 2017.

Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot, Minister of State Ramdas Athawale and Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Vijay Goel and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Modi, who laid the foundation stone of the centre in April 2015, dedicated it to the nation, saying it will play "a key role" in the dissemination of Ambedkar's teachings and vision.

The Prime Minister said Ambedkar Centre will function as a think-tank for inclusive growth and related socio-economic matters in line with Ambedkar's push for socio-economic equality.

The Congress is more interested in "Baba Bhole" than DRBRAmbedkar these days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday, in a veiled jibe at Rahul Gandhi who has been visiting temples as part of his poll campaign in Gujarat.

The PM said the government had developed five places associated with Ambedkar into pilgrimage spots.

The Prime Minister said the country was indebted to Ambedkar for his contributions to nation-building. In this context, he mentioned the sites at Alipur in Delhi; Mhow in Madhya Pradesh; Indu Mill in Mumbai; Deeksha Bhumi in Nagpur; and the house in London.

Mr Modi also lamented that Ambedkar's dream of social democracy - where all have a say - is still unaccomplished. He said that this "Panchteerth" is the today's generation's way of paying homage to Dr. Ambedkar. The home state of the Prime Minister has been witness to massive protests by Dalits against the BJP since a year ago when two Dalit men were mercilessly flogged in Gujarat's Una by cow vigilantes on the suspicion that they had slaughtered cows.

"We had said that in one year we will build toilets for girls in all government schools, we have already constructed over 4 lakh such facilities".
