Kidnappers of Plateau PDP chairman 'demand N100m ransom'

Plateau State Chapter, Damishi Sango has been reportedly abducted by gunmen.

MSango, who was a Minister of Sport under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was kidnapped on Wednesday alongside his son and two others.

The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr John Akans told reporters that the chairman left Jos on Wednesday afternoon for the national convention when the incident occurred.

The other persons that were kidnapped are one of the PDP elders in Plateau State, Chief Emmanuel Mangni; Sango's son, his driver, and his police orderly.

A source close to Sango said his (Sango) phone was used in contacting a chieftain of the party in Abuja to demand for the ransom.

When INDEPENDENT got to the state secretariat of the party Thursday evening, party leaders and stakeholders were holding meetings and making calls to their National Assembly members in Abuja.

He said, "The kidnappers are demanding N100m".

PDP Plateau state Chairman, Hon.

"The family spoke with him and he assured them that he is safe". I woke up this morning with a lot of missed calls and when I called his personal assistant, he broke the news that Chairman was kidnapped on his way to Abuja.

He said that the Plateau Police Command had reached out to the Kaduna Command on the matter.

Asked if he suspected whether the incident had any link with the PDP convention or if the abductors were Fulani herdsmen, Akans said it could be the normal case of kidnapping as there was insecurity in the country. We have no communication with the six occupants of the vehicle including the abductors and no ransom has been made. "The man has been kidnapped and efforts are on to secure his freedom", he said.
