UFC champ Georges St-Pierre vacates middleweight title, Whittaker-Rockhold set

With wins over the likes of Weidman, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Lyoto Machida, many fans will back Rockhold to take the title from Whittaker in front a hostile home crowd.

Dana White said he won't be thrilled if St. Pierre doesn't fight again at 185 because the two agreed that he would at least defend his title, but it doesn't sound like GSP cares given his current health concerns.

The Canadian wound up winning the fight after hitting Bisping with a hellacious hook that dropped the Englishman, before subsequently locking in a rear-naked choke that would render Bisping unconscious.

The UFC announced this morning that Georges St Pierre (26-2) had vacated the middleweight title because he had health problems and did not want to hold up the division. However, a recent bout with colitis has forced St-Pierre to give up his crown.

He's supposed to defend his title against Robert Whittaker, but he said in an interview with TSN that he likely won't fight at 185.

St Pierre, the former welterweight king, returned to the sport last month with a stunning win over former middleweight champ Michael Bisping in NY.

McGregor has not fought in the octagon in over a year after he angled his way into a rich boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather.

Helwani reported that it was unclear as to whether Whittaker v Rockhold would be for the interim or official championship.

What are your thoughts on the UFC planning a match-up between Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold?

Before his lengthy hiatus began following a successful UFC welterweight title defence against Johny Hendricks in November 2013, GSP only competed in the 170-pound division. Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below! And who do you think would emerge victorious in the potential match-up?
