Cuba and the United Nations Universal Human Rights Declaration

Cuba and the United Nations Universal Human Rights Declaration

Human Rights Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

The third preamble of the declaration is a copy of one of the articles of the famed 1940 Cuban Constitution, and Cuba had the initiative to include in the declaration the right to honor one's human rights and reputation, as well as protect citizens against arbitrary government interference in their private lives.

Ministers will also be meeting with the leaders of National Indigenous Organizations and representatives from other Indigenous groups, human rights commissions, as well as civil organizations to hear their perspectives on Canada's human rights priorities. For example, education is the most and primary basic human right, but in Pakistan more than 22 million children are out of school.

Since 1948, the UDHR has been the foundational document for enumerable worldwide treaties, regional human rights instruments, national constitutions, and is a key component of the global Bill of Human Rights which went into effect in 1976, according to Lowenthal's office. There must be a system for supporting truth and helping indigenous people through legal processes.

This year, Human Rights Day kicks off a year-long campaign to mark the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He concluded that "human rights are too important to be left to states alone".

The world on Sunday marks the United Nations Human Rights Day, which has added significance this year with activities leading to the 70th anniversary celebrations in 2018.

So on this day, I remember my father and the rights of all humans across the world.

"It is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages", said ICJ in a statement.

It is up to us how we fight for the rights. "We must organize, mobilise in defence of human decency, in defence of a better common future. These upcoming discussions with our counterparts will help provide a deeper understanding of how we can continue to advance human rights both at home and overseas, as well as set the stage for greater engagement with Canadians on the protection and promotion of these rights".
