Tearful Josh McCown takes to podium after breaking hand

New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown on Sunday got emotional while discussing the broken hand that he sustained vs. the Denver Broncos in Week 14.

McCown will have additional tests to determine if he can play, according to the Jets.

Bryce Petty figures to be in line to start next weekend in New Orleans.

Petty has served as McCown's backup all season, staying ahead of 2016 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg on the depth chart.

NY was 1-3 in those games. He refused to count himself out, but he didn't sound optimistic about his chances. "So thankful they let me be part of this team". "We get to see his grit day in and day out and his passion for it".

"We didn't really get into playing next year, or talking about playing next year", Bowles said. "My heart is with these guys". The Jets are exploring signing a third quarterback to have an emergency arm if they suffer another injury, Bowles said. He left hand was struck by a Denver player as he fell to the ground after releasing a pass. After a quick consultation with the trainers, he went straight to the locker room.

Petty started four games previous year, completing 58.5 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions. He was replaced both times by Petty, who made his 2017 debut. His 13 starts, 67.3 percent completion mark, 2,926 yards passing, and 18 touchdowns (against nine interceptions) are all career highs. He started four games last season but wasn't able to finish the last two because of injuries.

"It's been the best because of the guys", a choked-up McCown said. "It's been the best because of the guys in the locker room".
