Three Lashkar terrorists, woman killed in Handwara encounter

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shopian, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told New Indian Express that Jammu and Bank bullet proof scorpio vehicle was ambushed by militants between Pohju and Kralcheck area of Shopian at around 3 pm. During the gunfight, three militants were killed, the official said.

Lauding the valour of the men involved in the encounter, Vaid also said that 'It has been raining whole night & boys were out there in the cold (sic)'.

One militant, who had managed to flee from the encounter site, was also arrested by the police from a maternity hospital of Anantnag district of South Kashmir, they said.

The woman, identified as Misra Banom, lost her life in the firing.

According to information, acting on specific information about the presence of some terrorists in Unsoo village, the security forces surrounded the village.

"During search operation, the militants hiding in the house of Abdul Hamid Mir fired upon the joint search party". Deputy Inspector General (DIG) north Kashmir V K Birdi said that the woman was killed in the crossfire after she tried to escape from the house where the militants were trapped.

Later, hundreds of people braving rain and chill attended her funeral prayers amidst chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended mobile and Internet services in Sopore and Handwara areas of the district.

While south Kashmir remains the stronghold of local militants, northern parts of the Valley, being infiltration route, are dominated by foreign ultras.
